Worship at First Baptist Church
Contemporary Worship
Our 9:00 service is a contemporary service, which is filled with contempory praise music, along with upbeat arrangements of traditional music which is led by our Praise Team. Most of the music comes from our songbook, Songs for Praise and Worship. We also use many currently popular Christian songs.
Traditional Worship
Our 11:00 Service is a more traditional worship service, with music by the Chancel Choir. Hymns come from The Celebration Hymnal. There is nursery attendant provided during this service.
Helpful Information for Both Services
Communion
- Communion is celebrated at both services on the first Sunday of each month.
- Communion is also celebrated on Maundy Thursday.
Sermon
- Pastor Joe's sermon is the same for both services, so no matter what style of worship you prefer, you will be able to hear the same message.
- There is normally a Children's Talk during the service. During the 11:00 service young children may go to the nursery after this special time.
- Outlines of each week's sermon are available on the back table and may be helpful for those who have difficulty hearing or want to refer to any points made. In addition, all the important parts of the service are projected. If you need to work with the sign interpreter, please sit in the two front rows by the choir loft.
Prayer Requests
- During the worship service, an opportunity will be given to ask for prayer or share praises. If you would like to have your prayer requests listed in the bulletin, The Spires (our monthly newsletter), and/or the web-site, please fill out a Prayer Request card (in the pews) or call the Church Office.
- Prayer is an important part of our church life here at First Baptist. In addition to the prayers and praises we share each Sunday, there are more than 30 people on our "prayer chain" who make intercessory prayers whenever the need arises and a call comes through the chain. If you have a need you wou like shared on our prayer chain, please call the Pastor or the church office.
Offering Envelopes
- For your convenience, offering envelopes are in the pew racks. In addition, envelopes for special offerings will also be in the bulletin.
- If you would like to receive a set of dated envelopes to use each week, please call the church office.
Music
- Extra copies of Songs for Praise and Worship, and The Celebration Hymnal can be found in racks under the pews.
- For convenience, lyrics are usually printed in the worship bulletin and projected. Because they are copyrighted lyrics, they are followed by copyright information, as well as the number of our license to reprint them. CCLI # gives us permission to reproduce certain copyrighted songs for congregational singing.
Altar Flowers
- If you would like to have the altar flowers placed in memory of or in honor of someone, please sign up on the chart when it is passed around, or you can call the Church Office. Cost is $30 for two containers of flowers.
- At Christmas and Easter poinsettias or lilies can be ordered for the front of the church. A special bulletin insert is printed for those who would like to order these flowers.
